Alexandria Light and Power (ALP) is Alexandria’s municipal public power utility which serves residents with electric and water services. They are working to address increasing population growth, safety of employees, ADA accessibility, storage, and capability of it’s aging structures to provide reliable future service. BCI will be constructing a facility of 41,400 SF with a precast shell and steel superstructure that will serve as ALP’s headquarters and main campus. The project will consist of office solutions, warehouse & vehicle storage, wash bay, welding & wood shop repair, meter repair, as well as storage.
As part of the process, ALP conducted a cost-reduction exercise to reduce the building size to a more efficient and compact footprint. New construction will also give ALP an opportunity to reinforce the safety and well-being of its employees by integrating modernized ADA accessibility features to better accommodate the needs of both employees and customers. The intent of the ALP’s new space is to deliver a facility that represents their cooperative members and allows for both enhanced function and community service all while modernizing their facilities to today’s (and tomorrow’s) standards.
